The SPICE project was presented during an event organised by the Technical Chamber of Greece / Central Macedonia Section on 4 March 2026, marking the World Day of Engineers for Sustainable Development. The event focused on the role of engineering in advancing sustainable cities and communities.
Representatives and technical experts from the Municipality of Thessaloniki showcased the value of European-funded initiatives in promoting sustainable urban development. During the discussions, particular emphasis was placed on innovative approaches that support citizen engagement and environmental resilience in urban areas.
SPICE was highlighted as an example of a project that promotes:
- participatory and inclusive urban planning processes,
- the integration of nature-based solutions,
- the enhancement and protection of urban green infrastructure,
- the co-design and regeneration of public spaces through active community involvement.
The event provided an opportunity to underline the importance of collaboration between local authorities, researchers, professionals, and citizens in shaping more sustainable urban environments.
Together with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the wider SPICE consortium, the project continues to contribute towards creating greener, more resilient, and people-centred cities across Europe.
