As part of the 34th Money Show 2026, the Technical Chamber of Greece – Department of Central Macedonia organized the conference “Designing the Buildings and Cities of the Future”, where the Municipality of Thessaloniki presented the SPICE project and its participatory methodology for the co-design, co-creation, and preservation of public spaces across four European pilot neighborhoods.
Representatives of the Resilient Thessaloniki Office from the Municipality of Thessaloniki highlighted the project’s main objectives, which include:
- Developing a new participatory model for the (re)design of neighborhoods
- Supporting the green transition of cities in line with the principles of the New European Bauhaus (NEB)
- Using new technologies to encourage active participation and collaboration within local communities
- Promoting an interdisciplinary and inclusive approach to addressing local social challenges
During the conference, the President of TEE/TKM, Mr. Ilias Pertzinidis, underlined the importance of integrating sustainability, resilience, and inclusivity into the design of buildings and cities, emphasizing the need to create environments where people can live, work, and raise future generations in a sustainable and high-quality setting.
The event was moderated by Dr. Ifigeneia Theodoridou, Architect Engineer at the Department of Energy Planning and Resilience of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
The SPICE project continues to promote innovative and community-driven approaches to public space transformation across its pilot areas. More activities and events will follow in the coming months.
