SPICE Co-creation Model

What is co-creation, the SPICE way?

Co-creation is not a single consultation event.

SPICE's co-creation model is a participatory framework for redesigning public spaces with the people who use them. Rather than a single consultation event, it treats participation as a collaborative, iterative process — citizens, public authorities, experts, and local organisations jointly framing problems, shaping ideas, and sharing decisions about their own neighbourhoods, through nature-based solutions that make public space more inclusive and sustainable.

The model is held together by three values, drawn from the New European Bauhaus. Behind the three values sits something more concrete: five conditions the SPICE team found have to be in place for co-creation to actually work.

Grounding & institutional alignment
Designing meaningful participation
Facilitation & relational quality
Iteration, feedback & learning
Continuity & long-term impact
