Local Community Engagement in Action on the 11 Listopada Street in Bielsko-Biała

On 20 March 2026, the first local dissemination event dedicated to the SPICE project was held at FabLab in Bielsko-Biała. The meeting had an official, invitation-based format and brought together representatives of the municipal office, local institutions, cultural organisations, and local activists involved in the city’s cultural and civic life. It marked the opening stage of local dissemination activities in the city and created space for introducing the project, sharing its objectives, and starting dialogue with key stakeholders.

During the event, the project team presented SPICE including its main goals, planned activities, and broader European context. The local pilot area was also introduced: 11 Listopada Street, on the Biała side of the city. It was emphasised that the project activities are aligned with the objectives of the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus, contributing to social inclusion, democratic participation, and sustainable urban development.

A significant part of the meeting focused on the local context and the potential for cooperation. The project team underlined its willingness to work closely with local stakeholders and to draw on their existing knowledge, experience, and previous activities. The discussion also helped begin mapping initiatives, programmes, and projects already carried out by the municipal office and local cultural institutions, which could be connected with or used within the SPICE framework.

Participants shared initial reflections on local needs, challenges, and opportunities related to the pilot area. The meeting provided an important starting point for further cooperation and for developing future SPICE activities in Bielsko-Biała.

Later the same day, SPICE was also briefly presented during a more informal event at Pasmanteria.Hub, accompanying the lecture “Folklore of the City” by ethnologist and cultural anthropologist Piotr Maron. The lecture explored urban folklore, local identity, residents’ everyday practices, and the role of urban space in shaping community life – themes closely related to the SPICE project’s focus on public space, participation, and local communities.

Together, the first local dissemination event and the accompanying informal presentation helped introduce SPICE to both institutional stakeholders and a wider local audience, opening the way for continued dialogue around the local pilot area.
